Sharing the Gospel.
What motivates us or keeps us unmotivated?
Obedience is key! Just because you do not want to, do it out of obedience and you will be blessed!
How to get the conversation started:
Easy opening: “Do you think there is an afterlife?”
Follow up 1: “Are you going to make it to Heaven? Are you a good person?”
Follow up 2: “Can we take a look through the 10 Commandments?”
The Gospel or “Good News”
The Basics of the Gospel Message
GOD = CREATOR
God is the Creator of everything and everyone
He is the Creator, so He has a right to us as His creatures
God is holy
He is set apart; clean and pure
God created humanity to be holy too
MAN = SIN
Adam and Eve sinned by desiring to be god of themselves
Selfishness and pride entered into our hearts through this original sin and is why we now have a sin nature
Humanity is no longer holy; no longer clean and pure
This unholiness and sin separates us from God
GOD = JUST
God is just; sinners deserve to be punished for this disobedience
A price must be paid; reconciliation to God only happens when the price is paid
GOD = LOVE (through Jesus)
God is loving; God loves us so much that He sent His only son Jesus to come down to be the sacrifice
Jesus lived a perfect life, the life humans were supposed to live but didn’t, and died an undeserved death, the death we deserved but mercifully will not have to endure if we believe in Jesus
Jesus paid the final price and then rose from the dead
HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit will convict His children of their sin
Conversion is when a person turns from their sins and trusts in Jesus alone
MAN = Turn and Trust / Repent and Have Faith
This means putting your whole life in the hands of Jesus. You are to follow Him!
ROAMAN’S ROAD
The Traditional Romans Road to Salvation
Main Message
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
The Problem of Sin
Romans 3:23 ESV
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Romans 3:10-18 ESV
“as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
The Punishment
Romans 6:23 ESV
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The Payment
Romans 5:8 ESV
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The Response
Romans 10:9-10 ESV
“because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
Romans 10:13 ESV
“For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The Reconciliation
Romans 5:1 ESV
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Guarantee
Romans 8:1-2 ESV
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
The Promise
Romans 8:35-39 ESV
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Missing Peace
The Personal Sacrifice
Romans 6:1-2 ESV
“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?”
Romans 12:1-2 ESV
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Three other verses that are important to the gospel outside of the book of Romans are:
The Repentance of Sins
1 John 1:9 ESV
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Acts 3:19 ESV
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.”
The New Life in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
