“He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you”

The Greek word proginosko means destined, called, fore-ordanined. It is known before hand and therefor will happen, meaning it is ordained by God. Therefor, Jesus and his sacrifice was pre-thought out by God and was known by God before the foundations of the world. This makes the act of the suffering savior a pre-thought out act of God.
The “last times” as mentioned in the verse, or these last days, is talking about the time when Jesus walked the earth as man. He was brought here for us specifically not generally.

Consider this:
God had a plan that was before the foundation of the earth. A plan for us personally and specifically through the sacrificial death of a Savior, his Son Jesus Christ.

My thoughts:
This is so incomprehensible yet so wonderful all at the same time. God, in his perfect, and holy, and righteous, and pure plan knew what he was going to do before it all happened and get this… for me personally. That is so overwhelmingly huge. What a blessing and honor and privilege to be counted among the elect. Knowing this I need to live in light of this. This is a glorious and beautiful life-giving fact that Jesus literally came to die in MY place. That he knew me by name when he was on that cross crying out to the Father. The weight of MY sin was on his shoulders. For my sake. Because he loved and loves so intensely ME. He loves me more than I know how to love others and more than I love myself. THANK YOU JESUS!

In 1 Peter 1:19 the word used for precious (the Greek word Timios) is used for describing precious stones and metal. Christ’s blood is the most precious thing in God’s sight. This should change our view of what we consider precious. Considering that we place a high value on precious silver and gold, the verse prior says in reference to silver and gold that those are perishable things, meaning they are worthless in comparison to Jesus’ blood.

In the time when 1 Peter was written, he “lamb without blemish or spot” referred to the understanding of the Passover lamb. The lamb that was to be sacrificed was to be perfect. Passover is one of the Moeds or appointed times that God said we should practice. They were appointments with God as a sort of dress-rehearsal for things to come. Jesus was sacrificed on Passover and fulfilled Scripture and the Moed that the Israelites practiced for centuries prior.

Consider this:
Our salvation was bought at a high price, something far higher in value than anything on this earth, the blood of God incarnate.

My Prayer:
Thank you Lord for paying for my sin with such a high high HIGH price, your own blood. It is something to really consider and ruminate on: Jesus’ blood. I do not think I or anyone for that matter living on this earth at this moment truly understands the full weight of what that means. Because it is precious in God’s eyes that means it is truly truly precious and far more valuable than we understand. It is like trying to understand that even our good deeds are like dirty rags. None are good, no not one.

I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10b, ESV)

This is quite possibly the MOST misinterpreted verse in the Bible. I have heard both random people and even pastors say, “Check this out, God WANTS you to have an abundant life!” I like how they take out the first part of the verse, because it is a bit confusing when it is put in the context they want it to be in. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, ESV) Using hermeneutics, you will discover that Jesus is talking about salvation. You will also see that when you interpret this passage based on other scripture, the word abundant is used here to describe life upon life, or eternal life, or everlasting life, not a full and abundant life now. It is a shame that people so want to hear what they want to hear rather than what Jesus wants for their life. Twisting scripture for your own self-help is wrong. Yes, the words of God are living and active, but they are not meant to be twisted for selfish gain.

Your blood, your precious blood. Thank you for that. The words “thank you” seem to be worthless words in comparrison to how I feel. Even more so how I know I ought to feel. The magnitude of how my reaction will be when I see you face to face is something I realistically think my finite mind has no idea what it is talking about. I think I know, but on that day, that glorious day, I without a doubt will be dumbfounded and floored at the reality of seeing you and the intensity of the reality of your blood.

When we are gripped with anxiety, we are good for nothing! The Greek word that the New Testament uses for this vice paints the picture of a mind that is scattered and divided, having trouble concentrating on the tasks at hand. Ancient literature often depicts the problem of anxiety as a mind that is incapable of rest – an agitation that prevents us from good sleep. It is important to realize that God prohibits his children from tolerating this kind of unproductive thought pattern. Philippians 4:6-7 calls us to dispel our scattered concerns with the discipline of prayer. Read once more the simple exhortation from God’s word and allow it to redirect your mental energies today: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
