Instructions: Read through chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 and answer the following questions. 

CHAPTER 3: Proof of Life

1. How good of a person do you feel compared to those around you?

2. Do you feel it is wrong to question your faith? Why or why not?

3. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

“I am 100% confident that if I died today, I would go to Heaven.”

Individual Prayer:

Please stop and pray to God. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you and to give you peace, clarity, and a teachable spirit.

CHAPTER 4: Ticket to Heaven

4. Look up Universal Reconciliation and write out what it means.

5. Give Biblical proof to refute Universal Reconciliation.

6. Look up Romans 10:9, Romans 10:13, and James 2:19. What are your thoughts on these three verses and how they relate to each other. Why would James 2:19 be linked to the two Romans verses?

7. What do you think free will means?

8. Which of the three parables in the book helped in your understanding most? The airplane trip, the thief/murderer, or the pet rabbit?

9. Which parable was the most confusing and why?

10. Do you often ask why some are saved and others are not?

Read all of Genesis 7 and Matthew 24:38-39.

Then read all of Romans 9.

11. How are you able to reconcile Romans 9:20-24?

CHAPTER 5: God’s Sovereignty

12. Do you believe God is sovereign; that He created everything and has control over everything? If yes, explain why.

Consider this statement:

“Everything that happens must at least happen by his permission. If he permits something, then he must decide to allow it. If he decides to allow something, then in a sense he is foreordaining it. Who, among Christians, would argue that God could not stop something in this world from happening? If God so desires, he has the power to stop the whole world. To say that God foreordains all that comes to pass is simply to say that God is sovereign over his entire creation. If something could come to pass apart from his sovereign permission, then that which came to pass would frustrate his sovereignty. If God refused to permit something to happen and it happened anyway, then whatever caused it to happen would have more authority and power than God himself. If there is any part of creation outside of Gods sovereignty, then God is simply not sovereign. If God is not sovereign, then God is not God.” – R.C. Sproul “Chosen by God”

CHAPTER 6: The Holy Spirit at Work

Read all of John 16 to gain context of John 16:7-14.

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:7-14 ESV)

CHAPTER 7: The Bible

18. What are some points of proof that the Bible is true?

19. What is the difference between deductive and inductive Bible study? Do you feel one way is better than the other? Why?

20. What is expository preaching?

21. Is your pastor an expository preacher? If he is or if he isn’t, take a moment to email him or ask him at church why or why not. He will have an opinion on this matter and it is your job to find out what he believes.

CHAPTER 8: The Question of Evil

22. What do you think it means to steal God’s identity?

23. What are some examples of idolatry?

24. Why do bad things happen to good people?

25. If God is the source of all things, why is He not the source of evil? In other words, what is evil? What is its source?

26. What are four potential reasons bad things happen to us?

27. Describe a time in your life where you felt God pruning you.

28. Describe a time that God disciplined you.

29. Describe a time in your life when you reaped what you sowed based on your own foolish choices.

30. Describe a time in your life that was extremely difficult that you still do not have answers for and perhaps never will.

31. Listen to Laura Story’s song called “Blessings”. What line stands out to you the most?

 

Individual and Group prayer for the week:

Ask God for clarity on your own salvation. Ask for a filling of the Holy Spirit and a renewal of your faith. Pray for your friends who are working through this book with you, that they would find clarity and will be blessed this week for seeking God’s will.
