CHAPTER 1: The Domesticated God

1. What does the word domesticate mean as it applies to God, His person, His Word, and His plan?

2. What is your current view of God? How do you picture Him?

3. What do you think God thinks about when He considers you?

4. What do you think Heaven will be like?

5. Describe what you think it will be like when you see God/Jesus for the first time.

6. List some examples from the Bible that reveal what it may be like when we are face to face with God.

7. Do you feel like you please God?

8. Do you feel loved by God?

9. What do you think are some of the lies the devil tells us?

10. What specific lies do you think he tells you?

11. What are some modern-day distractions the devil could be using to keep unsaved kids and adults from Jesus?

12. What are some of the distractions the devil has put in our way, as Christians, to keep us from our best walk with Jesus?

CHAPTER 2: The Art of Deception

13. What do you think the author meant when she said the “art of deception”?

14. What does our culture claim as true that God claims as untrue?

15. Give some examples of truth in our world?

16. List some ways in which Jesus and His life have been verified.

17. Can a person believe in God by looking at a rose or at their hand? Why or why not?

18. What was your initial feeling regarding the author’s concerns for the teaching of Joel Osteen and Benny Hinn?

19. Have you ever examined the faith of your pastor?  Should you?  How can you be sure they are leading and teaching you God’s truth? Consider the below verses as you discuss.

Read the following and please read the full passage in the Bible to check the context of each.

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.” (2 Peter 2:1-3 ESV)

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 ESV)

“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.” (Mark 13:22 ESV)

Read Galatians 1:8-9 (ESV) “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.”

20. How do you think God feels about false teaching?

Read 2 Timothy 4:3 (ESV) “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions”

21. Take an honest and hard look at the past four church services you have attended where your pastor preached. Go back to your notes and list what the topics were and what your main take-away was.

22. Were you interested in what your pastor had to say and did you feel good after the message? Did he give you sound advice on how to be a better person, or did you leave feeling convicted with a desire to spread the gospel to others and sacrifice your comforts for the good of the Cross?

23. How can you know for sure if a person is teaching false truths?

24. List some areas in which your church is bearing good fruit.

25. Where do you feel is the fine line between wanting to make the church attractive to non-believers and going overboard in making the whole thing a slick “ear-tickling” production?

Individual and Group prayer for the week:

Pray that God would protect your heart, mind, and body from evil and from any plans Satan has to distract you. Pray that God would help grow your faith. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit and ask for wisdom to discern His will.
