Quotes from the Sermon:

“Fear is fueled by the unknown. Fear is fueled by ignorance. I remind myself of truths concerning God. That gives me a place to stand.” – Philip DeCourcy

“If you are battling fear you have to fight your fear by taking account of how God has been faithful to you in the past.” – Philip DeCourcy

“Fear is a false prophet. What do we do with false prophets? We stone them to death.”  – Philip DeCourcy

Application Questions:

1.    What are some of the things that cause us to fear? Specifically, what are things that cause you to fear?
2.    What is the difference between healthy fear and unhealthy fear?
3.    List and affirm some truths about God. Then discuss their relevance to the fearful heart.
4.    Why is it important to keep alive the memory of God’s past actions?
5.    How is worship the antidote to fear?
6.     Discuss the idea that courage is fear which has said its prayers.
7.    Think about the promise of future grace. How does it relate to the subject of fear?

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?

When evildoers assail me

to eat up my flesh,

my adversaries and foes,

it is they who stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me,

my heart shall not fear;

though war arise against me,

yet I will be confident.

One thing have I asked of the Lord,

that will I seek after:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

and to inquire in his temple.

For he will hide me in his shelter

in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

he will lift me high upon a rock.

And now my head shall be lifted up

above my enemies all around me,

and I will offer in his tent

sacrifices with shouts of joy;

I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;

be gracious to me and answer me!

You have said, “Seek my face.”

My heart says to you,

“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Hide not your face from me.

Turn not your servant away in anger,

O you who have been my help.

Cast me not off; forsake me not,

O God of my salvation!

For my father and my mother have forsaken me,

but the Lord will take me in.

Teach me your way, O Lord,

and lead me on a level path

because of my enemies.

Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;

for false witnesses have risen against me,

and they breathe out violence.

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living!

Wait for the Lord;

be strong, and let your heart take courage;

wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27, ESV)

Wednesday Worship ~ Attributes of God ~ God Is Omniscient!

You are all knowing. You know the good. You know the bad. You are all knowing. You even know the decisions you are going to make before you make them. My question lies in the idea that all you know and all you are is good. How then did evil get into the world if you are not evil? If you created everything, then why did you create evil? Isn’t it against your nature? I confess that I am so small brained compared to you. You know everything. But this is where I get really messed up. I hope some day soon I will be able to understand this question. I do not know everything, you do. So you can answer that question some day. I am sorry for this twisted thought. I know Satan uses it in my mind. Forgive my doubt. I know you are true. I know you are here. I can feel your prescience and know your works in my life and others. I know based on the prophets and the testimony of Jesus by the apostles. I know all is true. I see dimly through the glass and want so badly to bring it all into focus. The type-A personality that you have given me wants the hardest questions answered now. I long for that day when your perfect work in me will be completed in you.

O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. – Psalm 139: 1-4

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” – Romans 11:33-34

Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible. (Eph. 6:24)

DBR Thought Of the Day ~ I am nothing without God.

I am nothing without God. I have no talents, no gifts, no friends, no shelter, no family, no purpose without the mighty work of God. I have no breath, no emotion, no feeling, no hearing, no touch, no sight without the mighty work of The Lord. It is in Him that I do anything, am anything. God will give us what we need. He will prescribe our life out of his glorious peace. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God.

Isaiah 26:12 ESV
O LORD, you will ordain in peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works.
