Colossians 1:9
Read all of Colossians, the entire short book, everyday before you dissect the daily verse or passage. Today’s passage is Colossians 1:9
Colossians 1:9 ESV
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
PAST: answer what this verse meant to the original recipients in the PAST.
Paul continues to let them know how encouraged he is by the Colossians and, by example, is letting them know how much he is praying for them. This is teaching them that prayer is important and to pray for one another. The prayer specifically surrounds understanding God’s will and to be filled with His spiritual wisdom.
EVERYONE: re-write the verse in your own words to reflect the universal truth that applies to EVERYONE.
Pray for others who are saved that they would be full of the wisdom of God that will bring them spiritual knowledge and understanding.
PRESENT: what does this verse mean to you and how should you apply it today in the PRESENT.
This is my prayer every day. At the end of every prayer I ask that the Holy Spirit would fill me with the wisdom of God to understand and discern His will. Godly wisdom is different from worldly wisdom. It is far richer and robust. This encourages me and reminds me to be less selfish in my prayers and to pray this for my sisters and brothers in Christ as well. The more the church as a whole is filled with the wisdom of God to understand His will, the better we will be equipped to glorify Him!
